Overview and requirements

Afterword is a Chrome extension that exports your Zoom AI Companion meeting summaries as Markdown, Word (.docx), or CSV files. On Pro, it can also save new summaries to Google Drive on a schedule.

Afterword uses Zoom's official API with read-only access. It can read your summaries. It can't post, edit, or delete anything in Zoom, and it doesn't access recordings, transcripts, chat, or contacts.

You need:

  • Google Chrome.
  • A paid Zoom plan (Zoom Pro or higher). Zoom only shares AI Companion summaries with paid accounts. Zoom Basic (free) accounts can sign in but won't see any summaries.
  • AI Companion turned on for the meetings you want to export.

Install the extension

  1. Open the Afterword listing in the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Choose Add to Chrome, then Add extension.
  3. Open the extensions menu in Chrome's toolbar and pin Afterword so it's one click away.

Connect Zoom

  1. Click the Afterword icon and choose Connect Zoom.
  2. Sign in to Zoom and review the permissions.
  3. Choose Allow. Summaries from the last 7 days load automatically.

Afterword asks Zoom for three read-only permissions:

Permission What it's used for
meeting:read:list_summaries Lists your meetings that have an AI Companion summary in the date range you pick. Drive sync also uses it to find new summaries.
meeting:read:summary Reads the summary of each meeting you select, so Afterword can build the file.
user:read:user Reads your Zoom name and email, so the popup shows who is signed in and your plan and settings stay with your account.

To switch accounts, open the Account menu. If your account is on Zoom Basic, the popup offers Use a different Zoom account and Already upgraded? Refresh.

Export summaries

  1. Pick a range: Last 7 days, Last 30 days, or Custom to choose exact dates on a calendar.
  2. Select meetings. Tick them, or use Select all. Search meetings filters by meeting title in the current range.
  3. Choose a format: Markdown, Word, or CSV. Word and CSV are Pro.
  4. Click Export. One meeting saves a single file. Several save as summaries.zip.

Files save to your Downloads folder. By default they're named by date and title, for example 2026-10-20 Q4 Roadmap Review.md. A CSV export writes two files: summaries.csv (one row per meeting) and next-steps.csv.

A meeting marked Summary not ready has no finished summary in Zoom yet, so it can't be exported.

If some meetings fail, Afterword exports the rest and tells you which ones failed, for example "3 of 4 exported".

Limits

  • Free: Markdown only, up to 10 summaries per export.
  • Pro: Markdown, Word, and CSV, with no plan limit per export. One export can include up to 1,000 summaries.

Export options

Choose Options next to the format buttons. Export options are free on both plans and apply to downloads and Drive sync.

  • File name: Date – Title or Title only. A preview shows the result.
  • Include in each file: Overview, Next steps, and Meeting details are on by default. Topic-by-topic summary is off by default.
  • Time zone for dates: the time zone used for meeting dates and times in your files.

Your options are saved to your Afterword account.

Pro and billing

Pro costs $19 per month or $190 per year (two months free). Prices are in USD. Pro adds:

  • Word (.docx) and CSV export
  • Unlimited summaries per export
  • Google Drive auto-sync, daily or weekly

Choose Upgrade, pick Monthly ($19) or Yearly ($190, 2 months free), then Continue. Payment is handled by Stripe. Afterword never sees or stores your card number.

To cancel or change billing, open the Account menu and choose Manage billing. This opens the Stripe billing portal. Pro stays active until the end of the paid period. Pro renews automatically until you cancel.

Google Drive sync

Drive sync is Pro only. New summaries are saved to Google Drive on a schedule, without opening the popup.

  1. Open Google Drive sync at the bottom of the popup and choose Connect Google Drive.
  2. Sign in to Google and allow Afterword to create files in your Drive. Afterword uses Google's drive.file permission, so it can only see files it created.
  3. Set Frequency (Daily or Weekly) and Format. The Drive format is separate from the format you export by hand.
  4. New files go to the /Zoom Summaries folder in your Drive. Sync now runs a sync right away.

If the popup shows "Sync failed · Google access expired", connect Google Drive again. Sync pauses while your Zoom session is expired or you're offline.

To stop syncing, open the Account menu and choose Disconnect next to Google Drive. Files already in /Zoom Summaries stay in your Drive. Zoom stays connected.

Disconnect, remove the app, and delete your data

Each of these works on its own:

  • Delete data in the extension. Open the Account menu and choose Delete data, then confirm. This signs you out and deletes your Zoom account's data from Afterword: sessions, tokens, export options, and Drive sync settings. You can connect Zoom again later, which starts a new session.
  • Remove Afterword from Zoom. Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace, open Manage, then Added Apps, and remove Afterword. Zoom notifies Afterword, which revokes its Zoom and Google access and deletes everything it holds for your account right away.
  • Email us at privacy@getafterword.com from your Zoom account's email address. We confirm deletion within 30 days.

Inactive accounts are deleted automatically after 12 months with no activity.

If you subscribed to Pro, cancel it in Manage billing before you delete your data. Stripe keeps its own payment records as required by law.

To remove the extension itself, go to chrome://extensions, find Afterword, and choose Remove.

Files you already exported stay in your Downloads folder or Google Drive. Delete them there if you no longer want them.

Privacy and security

  • Afterword doesn't save summary text on its servers. Downloads are built in your browser. Drive sync passes text through only long enough to write the file.
  • Afterword stores your encrypted Zoom and Google sign-in tokens, your Zoom user ID and email, your plan status, your export options, and your Drive sync settings.
  • Sign-in tokens are encrypted, and deleted when you disconnect, choose Delete data, or remove the Zoom app.
  • All traffic between the extension and Afterword uses HTTPS.
  • We don't sell your data or use it for advertising or AI training.
